Girl Up Nigeria was launched on the 14th of July 2020 in alignment with Girl Up – a campaign by the United Nations Foundation, with the aim to create sustainable impacts in Nigeria by uniting Girls and Women to take sustainable action starting from their communities under the leadership of Baliqees Salaudeen. Since its inception, Girl Up Nigeria has carried out several activities that can be found in this document.

To ensure the smooth running of our activities, Girl Up Nigeria became an adopted initiative under the Bays Planet Foundation and every year we recruit a different set of Executive Volunteers to lead the activities of the initiative across the country.

We are uniting girls and women to take long-term actions to change the world, beginning in their own communities, without leaving the male gender behind. Since its inception in 2020, Girl Up Nigeria has developed projects addressing climate change, gender-based violence, mentorship for young girls, education, ending harmful traditional practices for women and girls, and civic and legal rights education for its members and the general public, among other things.
