The Heading for the Future program is a project by Girl Up Nigeria and Bays Planet Foundation to bridge the gender gap in Science and Technology-related careers through encouraging and empowering young women, between the ages of 18-27 to take up and harness their interests in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

The project is a women-focused intervention project designed to whet the interests of the participants through their early adult stage and is designed to create inspired young women in technology by engaging them in the right conversations to improve their interest, participation and involvement in technology and digital-related topics.

The project is part of our contributions to breaking the biases faced by women in STEM and is based on the need to achieve gender equality and improve the participation of women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, through harnessing tech talents early in girls.

Our goal and objectives are among other things, to increase the participation of young women in STEM, make young women aware of career opportunities in technology and how to access resources to build successful careers in technology and unite girls and foster community for girls and women in STEM.

The pilot project is limited to only Ten (10) young women between the ages of 18-27 who are undergraduates or recently graduated, within Kwara State. Participants will be selected through an application process and must have basic technical literacy and access to a laptop or smartphone. The training is based on technical skills and soft skills needed in the 21st century workspace. The program is also expected to last for a period of one month and will take place physically.

The participants are to be trained on Product Design, Data Analysis, Graphics Design and Job Readiness (LinkedIn Optimization, CV Writing, Public Speaking, Presentation).

The project is to be funded through the Girl Up Campaign STEM grant. Kwara Build Tech and Malhub will oversee the facilitation of the training sessions during the bootcamp.
